Eric Barone he’s never been the type to put on rush. The creator of Stardew Valley took years and years to realize his great success, taking the time to refine every detail and even rework the parts he had created in the past to match their quality after years of development and improvements of the game. So we don’t think you’ll be surprised to find out that he has no desire to release his next game quickly, Haunted Chocolatier.
In an interview linked to future plans for Stardew Valley – which has reached version 1.6 in the PC version – Barone stated that he did not allow himself to be influenced by external pressure during the development of Haunted Chocolatier. He doesn’t feel the need to release it quickly and believes that “it’s better to have a delayed game that’s actually good than a bad game released on time.”
Barone’s words on Haunted Chocolatier
“The fans’ expectations definitely put pressure on me,” Barone told Aftermath. “But it’s better to have a delayed game that’s actually quality than a bad game released on time. When it’s ready, I’ll post it. I’m not too worried about the pressure. I don’t feel indebted to anyone when it comes to Haunted Chocolatier. It’s a game I ‘decided’ to play. I don’t ‘need’ to make it happen.”
“Before I created Stardew Valley, I spent all day hunched over the computer,” Barone added. “And to this day I still spend all day hunched over the computer… My goal in life is not to make money. I want to create things and share them with the world. This is the meaning of everything. This is what I’m doing. That’s what I will do, regardless of any other circumstances, as long as I can financially support myself to be able to do it. If I couldn’t, I would get a job and spend my free time making things to try to get back to it.”
Last October Barone celebrated a new milestone with four images from the game.
