The Colombia selection prepares to face Bolivia in its last friendly match before the Copa América 2024, in a match scheduled for June 15 at 4:00 pm Colombia time at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut.
This match, which will be played after facing United States on June 8 at Fedex Field in Landover, Maryland, represents the final phase of preparation for the continental tournament.
Originally, a match against Canada, but after its cancellation, the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) secured Bolivia as a replacement, thanks to relations with members of Conmebol. This change is crucial given the proximity of the Copa América, allowing the Tricolor to fine-tune its strategy and cohesion before the tournament.
Bolivia, for its part, also has a busy schedule before the confrontation with Colombia, including a match against Mexico in Chicago on may 31 and the possibility of an additional game against Peru. This intense activity highlights the importance of these friendlies for the South American teams, which seek to optimize their performance before the oldest continental event in the world.
This competition is Colombia’s twenty-fourth participation in the Copa América. The team has one title under its belt, won in 2001 under the direction of Francisco ‘Pacho’ Maturana, in a tournament marked by security challenges that resulted in the absence of Argentina and Canada, and the inclusion of Costa Rica and Honduras as guest teams. In that edition, Colombia achieved an impeccable performance, culminating with a victory against Mexico in the final thanks to a goal from Iván Ramiro Córdoba.
As reported Win Sports, “We have to change the chip and that is what we have been doing at a comprehensive level with U-20, U-25, men’s and women’s teams,” said Jesurún.
“For a while now, I have been saying that this issue of winning mentality no more, no more! We have to move on to a topic of champion mentality, We have to aim to aspire to be tournament champions. “Any tournament, no matter how insignificant or small, is not easy to win,” he said.
