These are bad times for Meta and its products, as the government of one of the richest and most populous countries in the world banned WhatsApp and other applications in what appears to be retaliation for the actions of the United States.
Specifically, we are referring to China, which ordered Apple to remove the aforementioned messaging app as well as other social media programs from the App Store in a move that some believe is related to TikTok.
Those affected at the moment are WhatsApp and Threads, and what happened took place after the US Congress tries to ban TikTok in this country.
We recommend: WhatsApp generates images with Artificial Intelligence in real time.
That is unless the company behind it is sold to an American company.
The pretext on the part of the Chinese authorities to remove the applications mentioned above was for reasons of 'national security'. Apple had no choice but to comply.
The Chinese government entity that made the request was the Cyberspace Administration of China, which regulates — and censors — online content that can be viewed on the Internet in that nation.
Those responsible for Apple in Chinese territory commented on the matter 'we are obliged to follow the laws in the countries where we operate, even when we disagree'. Despite this, it is possible that the Chinese will continue using WhatsApp.
Although China blocks many foreign applications and websites, its inhabitants resort to using VPNs. It is even possible to download WhatsApp and Threads if you have iCloud accounts outside of this country.
What is not clear is the supposed security threat these programs represent. But as we mentioned before, there is no shortage of those who manage that it is actually due to what is happening with TikTok in the United States.
