Maldonato has changed his story several times, speaking of a suicide attempt by his wife: “She was depressed”
The arrest arrived during the night on charges of attempted murder for Jonathan Maldonato, husband of the 30-year-old influencer Soukaina El Basri, known on social media under the name Siu. Biella’s chief prosecutor, Teresa Angela Camelio, also issued a restraining order against her. What had happened to Siu?
Maldonato, 39 years old, employee of Lavazza and resident in Chiavazza, is currently in prison. The arrest occurred after a prolonged interrogation at the police station. Maldonato, suspected of attempted murder, was taken to the police station around 8.30pm and during the interrogation he did not admit any responsibility for the serious wounding of his wife.
Siu, a 30-year-old influencer, is currently in induced coma in Novara after an operation for internal bleeding caused by a blade that severed her mammary artery. In March 2023, Siu reported her husband to the police for mistreatment. Maldonato’s name was already present in the lists of those under investigation for Code Red crimes, a detail which, after the hospital’s report, prompted the Biella Prosecutor’s Office to start the investigation.
According to the investigators’ reconstructions, there was tension between husband and wife, also confirmed by Siu’s friends. They describe him as “jealous” and “possessive”, so much so that he always accompanied her on photo sets for modeling work. The influencer’s brother said that, in her final weeks, her family had difficulty contacting her, and her father from Morocco had also tried in vain to reach her.
Before prosecutor Camelio issued the restraining order, Maldonato had gone to the Maggiore hospital in Novara where Siu has been hospitalized in intensive care since last Thursday. He was born with the woman’s brother a heated clash. Maldonato, father of the influencer’s two daughters, was the first to call 118 on the day of the accident, declaring that his wife had fallen. However, this version immediately raised suspicions in the Biella Prosecutor’s Office, which launched in-depth investigations.
Maldonato subsequently changed his version, speaking of a suicide attempt from his wife: “She was depressed. She tried to take her own life. When I realized that she was injured, I called 118.” But the police, together with the forensic team and the deputy prosecutor, searched the couple’s house in Chiavazza. There were no obvious signs of a struggle but the evidence led to a fairly clear situation: “The hypothesis of an accidental fall or a self-harming gesture is not consistent with the evidence collected.”
Jonathan Maldonato’s Facebook profile, meanwhile, was covered in insults. The last photo published by the man dates back to May 8, depicting the family on the sofa at home, with the two little girls, while they celebrated their mother’s birthday. Under the image, all kinds of comments appeared, especially negative ones.
