Today, Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Christian Saints celebrate the Saint of Saint Simeonfollowed by other names that you can consult right here.
Saint Simeon, a Christian ascetic born in Cilicia, was known as “the Stylite.” Dedicated to penance and prayer, he lived with extreme austerity, which led him to join a monastic community in Tedela. However, he was expelled when the monks considered his penance excessive, discovering marks from a rough rope on his body, fearing that his extreme sacrifice might demoralize others in their Christian faith. Seeking greater isolation, he took refuge in a dry cistern, but the constant visitors interrupted his contemplative and prayer life. So, he erected a three-meter column, then a seven-meter column, and finally a 17-meter column, where he spent the last 37 years of his life.
