38 years have passed since one of the most mysterious disappearances in all of Europe took place. On June 24, 1986, a couple left Las Cánovas, a district of Murcia, with their son Juan Pedro in a tanker truck loaded with more than 20,000 liters of fuming sulfuric acid. Around 6:40 in the morning, at kilometer 96 of the old N-1 Burgos-Somosierrathe tragic accident takes place in which the parents, Carmen and Andrés, died at the moment, but the body of the 10-year-old boy could not be found.
This case has been considered one of the strangest of the last decade of the 20th century. A case that in recent years has been debated and investigated in various programs and television gatherings by investigative teams. Now it has returned to the media spotlight to try to clarify the facts and elucidate what the most accepted hypothesis by experts would be.
Andrés Martínez Navarro, a driver by profession, had been commissioned to transport a tanker truck, which contained a dangerous cargo, from the Region of Murcia to Bilbao. The couple’s family told the authorities that the little boy was with them because, after carrying the load, they would visit the Basque Country together. This was the gift to Juan Pedro for getting good grades at school and he was very excited about the trip, according to his uncle Juan García.
However, during the trip the driver’s behavior was somewhat irregular. It is unknown why, but they made a total of 12 second stops on the slopes, an unusual decision given the load they were carrying.
There is little information that has been obtained about the case, beyond that provided by the tachograph, which indicated that after climbing the Somosierra slope the truck began to descend at high speed. It was when they were trying to avoid a truck when they left the road and died. However, Juan Pedro’s remains were never found. One of the first theories that was considered was that the little boy’s body had dissolved in the acidbut the police quickly dismissed the idea, as it would have taken a minimum of twelve hours submerged in acid for it to dissolve.
Another of the theories that has been considered the most, and that is bought by the relatives of those injured, is that Juan Pedro had been kidnapped. As reported in The truth ofseveral witnesses saw a white vehicle at the scene of the accident: “There were three people. There were two women and a man. A man and a woman in a white babi got out saying that she was a nurse and that she was going to treat the injured person on the road. The man approached the remains of the truck and called her, the truckers say that they had a foreign accent, and that suddenly they saw that the van was charging towards them and that they had to remove the injured person so that they could pass.“says the uncle of the little boy from Somosierra.
The reason for the kidnapping would indicate that since it was an alleged drug matter, they would have taken the boy hostage.. There were criminal organizations that used transport of dangerous goods to transport narcotics from points on the southeastern Mediterranean coast to other areas of the peninsula. However, the family put an end to all types of rumors by making it clear that: “Andrés was not voluntarily involved in said business.” Voluntarily, that is the crux of the matter.
A year after the event, El Caso had a full-page headline on its cover: “The boy from Somosierra, in the power of drug trafficking? Heroin was found in the tanker of the damaged truck“.
Although these are the main hypotheses that were considered, the theories about this mysterious disappearance have not stopped coming, from the fact that the child was thrown out of the cabin of the truck until, some more bizarre, he had been kidnapped, but by aliens.
