Pladur is a commercial brand that has become a generic name to refer to plaster cardboard or laminated plaster, a construction material widely used today because it replaces with advantage the brick and plaster septums. It is versatile, easy to install and with a relatively low cost.
The plaadur is composed of a plasterboard covered by both faces with cardboard, which forms a light but very resistant structure. These sheets are mainly used for the creation of partitions, false ceilings and indoor coatings.
One of the main advantages of the Plays is its lightness, compared to bricks and mortar, which facilitates their transport and manipulation. In addition, it is easily cut and manipulated, and allows to create curved forms and complex structures that would be difficult to achieve with other materials.
A Pladur septum is a hollow structure in which two sheets are attached to metallic uprights. This hole facilitates electrical or plumbing facilities, but if it is filled with an insulating material, it offers excellent acoustic and thermal insulation. The plladur is also fire resistant, since the plaster that composes it has ignipitous properties.
But despite its multiple advantages, the plaadur also has inconvenience. The main is that, unlike brick partitions, hanging something on the surface of a plaster cardboard tobique can be a drama. If it is not done carefully, that so heavy mirror that we wanted to place can end up broken on the floor, or a simple painting can cause a gap to the size of a fist on the wall.
These accidents are because the plaster cardboard has limited structural resistance, and is not suitable for withstanding heavy loads directly on its surface without additional reinforcement. In addition, the plasterboard is more fragile and sensitive to impact damage, being able to break or crack with relative ease. To top it off, it is immediately damaged by moisture, although there are special versions of the hydrophugo Pladour designed for wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.
The limits of the plaadur
Gypsum cardboard partitions are not designed to be a primary structural element, that is, they cannot support the weight of a construction alone. Its main function is to create divisions and finishes. Therefore, when hanging objects on a wall or roof of Pladur, it is essential to take into account the weight of the object and the type of fixation that will be used.
Hanging a light picture does not represent a big problem, but hanging a furrow of greater suspended weight, such as a shelf, or even a modern toilet model fixed to the wall without soil support requires knowing the technique and, in many cases, putting An additional reinforcement.
Traditional expansion tacos used in brick or concrete walls are not suitable for the plasterboard, since they do not provide sufficient support. These tacos are designed to penetrate more deeply into the wall and expand when introducing a screw, but the plasterboard lamina has a thickness of only 18 millimeters, and one of these tacos can easily damage the plate.

Instead, what is recommended is to use specific tacos for PLADUR, such as expansion or butterfly tacos, although lighter loads can be screwed directly on the sheet. These are the options:
- Butterfly tacos: they have a kind of ‘wings’ that open inside the Pladur plaque when squeezing the screw. They are suitable for lighter loads, up to 5 kilos.
- Achieves with self -spite: these anchors are manufactured in plastic or metal and are especially useful because they do not require a previous drill. They are simply screwed directly to the Pladur plate and support up to 8 kilos.
- Expansion tacos: These tacos expand behind the plasterboard plate when screwing them, providing a firmer support both sides of the hole. They look like the tacos used in brick walls, and are ideal for higher loads, about 10 kilos.
- Metal expansion tacos: These should be placed with a special riveted pill that, once inside the wall, allows expanding the taco inside. They can support up to 20 kilos.
It is important to use metal bits to make the holes of these specific tacos of PLADUR. If special concrete drill bits are used, which are used in brick partitions, the final hole will have a larger diameter of the desired, and the taco will have a clearance.
Reinforcements for heavy loads
When it comes to hanging heavier objects, such as a suspended toilet, a radiator, a television screen or a large furniture, it is necessary to reinforce the interior of the interior.
A common option is to use metal profiles or wooden slats behind the plasterboard during installation. It is also common to screw an additional plaster cardboard inside. These elements provide additional support and allow to support the weight of the object. Another option is to use chemical anchors, which consist of epoxy resins that are injected into the plasterboard to create a solid and lasting junction with the screws.
If the weight is not so much, for example, up to 20 kilos, tilting tacos can be used, which have a row that is introduced into the wall and, once inside, rotates 90 degrees, providing a very solid anchor. These tacos are also adequate to hang elements of plasterboard roofs, such as heavy lamps.
