Western powers decided exclude several Russian banks from Swift interbank messaging, key in international transactions, within the framework of an arsenal of sanctions against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, the German government reported this Saturday.

The sanctioned banks will be “cut off from international financial flows, which will substantially reduce their global operations,” the German government said in a statement.
Similarly, the European Commission will propose “paralyze the assets of the Russian central bank” in the European Union (EU), so that Moscow cannot finance the invasion of Ukraine with them, announced this Saturday the president of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. With this measure, “financial transactions will be frozen and the liquidation of Russian assets will be impossible,” Von der Leyen explained in a video after meeting with leaders of the United States, France, Germany and Italy.
