United Autosports has reprized Will Owen for the 2022 season of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
After a year of absence from the racing world, the American reached an agreement to take back the wheel of the Oreca 07-Gibson # 22 sharing it with confirmed Philip Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque.
In addition, his first engagement next year will be the 24h of Daytona as the fourth competitor of the team, which in recent days has already announced Jim McGuire, Guy Smith and Hanson in training for the assault on the LMP2 Class.
“I am delighted to be returning to racing and doing it with United Autosports. The opportunity to do all season in the WEC with Filipe and Phil is a special occasion and I am grateful to anyone who gives me the chance,” says the 26-year-old.
“This also gives me a lot of confidence as I will have two very experienced teammates and a team behind that has continued to grow and achieve great results. I am thrilled to be returning to Daytona as well, we have a great line-up with Jim, Phil and Guy , and I think we will have a lot of fun working together. “
“The first time I took part in this race was in 2018 with United Autosports, where we finished fourth. I’ve learned so much since then and can’t wait to do it again. Taking a year off from racing was a good decision. and it allowed me to see many things with a new perspective. “
“I will have to tiptoe back, as I haven’t ridden for a year, but I think once I brush up on my skills, it will be even better. This winter I will have a lot of work to do in view of Daytona, but I’m excited by the challenge and also happy to work with United again. “
Team principal Richard Dean added: “I am delighted to welcome Will back to the team for the 24 Hours of Daytona 2022 and the WEC 2022 season. We were sad when he decided to step away from racing at the end of the 2020 season. so we are very happy that he has decided to return “.
“We are happy that he is part of the team, not only is he a fast driver, but it is also a pleasure to have him on the team as a person. I am curious and excited to see him at work Phil and Filipe in the WEC, as well as in Daytona with Jim, Guy and Phil “.
Owner Zak Brown commented: “I am delighted to have Will back on the team for the WEC 2022 and Daytona season. He has been an integral part of our LMP2 program from the very beginning, so his return is fantastic news. see it in action “.
