The starting grid of the FIA World Endurance Championship will increase to 40 cars from next year, as ratified by the World Council last Tuesday and officially announced at Le Mans.
During the annual press conference that the Automobile Club de l’Ouest holds before the race that will take place on the Circuit de la Sarthe, the news for the next edition of the maximum endurance series were listed.
In addition to the calendar, which as specified will still have 8 races with the confirmation of Imola for 4 years, we will be able to see at least three more cars in action compared to today, equally divided between prototypes and LMGT3.
In the HYPERCAR Class, 20 cars will be admitted, mixing the LMH and LMDh platforms as always, but each official manufacturer will be obliged to enter a minimum of two vehicles to score points in the dedicated ranking.
The additional ones will instead be included in the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams ranking, i.e. the current one dedicated to private individuals.
Naturally, as regards the 24h of Le Mans, the number of participants will increase based on the invitations distributed by ACO.

Furthermore, it was also said that the Hypercar homologation cycle will be extended until 2029, with the addition of two ‘Evo Jokers’, i.e. development tokens, which can be spent between 2028 and 2029. As we know, currently these there are five that can be used during the 5 years of homologation of the cars.
Finally, it was also decided that the current LMP2s will be able to continue their adventure for another three years, and that the new models – originally scheduled for 2026 – will only be introduced in 2028 with a new chassis and engine still being defined as specifications .
This underlines above all the goodness of Oreca’s project, whose 07-Gibsons that debuted in 2017 will have the opportunity to race at the 24h of Le Mans, in the European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA SportsCar Championship.
