Kazuki Nakajima and Toyota will no longer be on track together in the FIA World Endurance Championship next year.
As has been rumored for some time, the Japanese at the end of the 2021 season will not renew his contract with the team that led him to conquer the World Championship and the 24h of Le Mans in 10 years of solid relationship.
“It has been an honor to compete for Toyota Gazoo Racing for 9 seasons and I feel very fortunate to have won Le Mans and titles with passionate teammates and people,” says the 36-year-old.
“I want to thank the team for these 10 years together in the WEC, I have so many memories and everyone made me feel at home every day, both in the difficult and the good times.”
Nakajima should be replaced by Ryo Hirakawa, who has already tried the GR010 Hypercar, while for him he can start a new chapter, probably in Japan, being still in the middle of his career.
“Endurance is at the dawn of a new era and many manufacturers will arrive with their Hypercars in the coming years. A new adventure begins for me too, which I can’t wait to start, but I will continue to cheer for the team. “
