At that point, the leadership of the race passed to teammates Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina, who were second up to that moment.
The Italian and Spanish drivers, authors of a capital test, managed a five-second margin on the Corvette of Nick Tandy and Tommy Milner, then winners of the race, until the refueling, which took place two laps from the checkered flag for both. the Ferraris.
The 488 GTE number 52 of AF Corse finished in second place, 19 “4 from the Anglo-American duo, while the number 51 in third, 28” 2 from teammates. The two world champions take the lead in the world championship drivers standings with one point ahead of Gianmaria Bruni, fifth together with Frédéric Makowiecki who, in this fourth round of the championship, has replaced Richard Lietz.

“We missed a couple of minutes for the win, but I’m happy for the team because everyone did a perfect job – said Molina – Today the car was fantastic and we were forced to stop to put in enough fuel to finish the race” .
“Our race was free of errors, unfortunately luck was not on our side. A podium in Monza is always special and I want to thank Ferrari because we all work very hard, trying to improve every time and today we have close to success” .
“I think we have taken a step forward this year and we are fighting with our team mates. Now we will prepare for Fuji, a track that I like, where we expect lower temperatures than those recorded here.”
Pier Guidi added: “It’s a shame we didn’t manage to win because today we were fast, we worked well and the race was developing in the best way, without problems.”
“One detail made the difference and cost us our success, which we regret because we could have brought home important points. But that’s how sport is done.”
“I remain positive for the future, we will try to improve further, avoid mistakes to try to win. We will return to Japan after a few years and usually the weather is difficult to predict but, having an earlier date than usual, maybe it will be easier”.
