In the past few days, Germany has been blessed with lots of sunshine and fairly mild temperatures. However, wind from the east is now causing cold temperatures.
Offenbach am Main – A look out of the window in the past few days has almost made us forget that the year is just two months old. Chirping birds, bright blue skies and lots of sunshine gave rise to the first spring fever and anticipation of the warmer months. In the sun and sheltered from the wind, you could even dare to take off your winter jacket. But as soon as the sun went away, it got freezing cold. In the coming week, a strong wind from the east could then banish the spring fever again for the time being.
Weather: East wind makes for frosty nights
On Sunday, the sun is hiding behind fields of clouds, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) there are only local loosening. The temperatures are between one and eight degrees. The weather will settle down until Tuesday, when the wind from the east will slowly pick up speed. Until Thursday, the German weather service even warns of stormy gusts in the southern German mountains and on the peaks of the Alps. The maximum temperatures are around three to nine degrees, and the sun shines during the day. At night it cools down significantly and temperatures drop below freezing to between -2 and -8 degrees.
The easterly wind will also continue on Thursday and Friday. Despite the sunshine, the temperatures remain in the single digits and fresh at -1 to nine degrees.
Weather: Too warm winter – lots of precipitation
According to the DWD, this winter from December 2021 to February 2022 was too warm for the eleventh time in a row. The average temperature was 3.3 degrees, 3.1 degrees above the reference temperature. The precipitation balance, on the other hand, exceeded the expectations of the experts. With around 200 liters per square meter, there was significantly more precipitation than the reference amount of 181 liters.
