Installation of Coccioli Prosecutor
Prosecutor Coccioli takes office in Matera. Roberto Rossi was also present
«The law will be our lighthouse»: like this Alessio Coccioli, new chief prosecutor of Matera, during the speech given on his first day of work in the Palace of Justice of the City of Sassi, in which he met institutional representatives, law enforcement and lawyers. The presence of the Bari prosecutor, Roberto Rossi, was significant, as he wanted to share the day of the inauguration with his colleague.
«I started from Taranto, where Ilva was our daily bread» recalled the Tarantino prosecutor, who entered the judiciary in 1996 at the prosecutor's office of the Ionian capital, and retraced his career consolidated by a rich wealth of experience and a relevant professional CV. In 2009, Alessio Coccioli then took on the role of deputy prosecutor at the Court of Lecce, with functions of deputy of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate led by Cataldo Motta.
In 2018 he moved to Bari with the promotion to deputy prosecutor, where he coordinated the pool of magistrates for crimes against the public administration, coordinating, among the various investigations, the investigation into Civil Protection procurement which led the former director of the Civil Protection Mario Lerario, caught red-handed by the investigators of the Guardia di Finanza. And, lastly, the investigation that shakes Bari and Puglia politics, coordinated by him on the “clan” of Lady Preferences, the former councilor Anita Maurodinoia, and Sandro Cataldo, the husband alleged to be the “manager” of his wife's electoral campaigns and of her circle of friends who carried preferential votes bought and paid 50 euros each.
«I'm starting from scratch to get back into the game» continued Coccioli, extolling «the exceptional level of my colleagues», being collaborated by five deputy prosecutors, and highlighting the absence of holidays in the prosecutor's office, since the staff is full.
«The law will be our lighthouse, we will work together in silence and we will guarantee the right to report because distorted information does not do the citizen a good service», with peace of mind journalists who are going through a phase of doubts and perplexities resulting from the recent Costa amendment.
Prosecutor Alessio Coccioli thanked his predecessor Pietro Argentino, who retired in September last year, and concluded his speech by paying homage to the figure of magistrate Rosario Livatino who made faith and law the beacon of his fight against the mafia.
