Philip minions An important quarry project took place in Vigo. The Astorgano opted for the base and pulled the checkbook to ‘repatriate’ grown players in the Celta structure, as in the case of Denis Suárez. Rubén, Fontán, Domínguez, Vázquez, Mallo, Suárez, Brais, Mina and Aspas, all of whom grew up at the base, provide quality and a sense of belonging. An idea that he wants to transfer to Levante with players like Pepelu, still to be renewed, Cárdenas, Cantero, Pablo Martínez, Marc Pubill… There is wood. The Astorgano wants the effort and investment that the Orriols team in the school has an impact on the first team. “That Pepelu and Cárdenas can be references depends on them. Also on the club, of course”ensures for AS.
What is the medium-long term project of Felipe Miñambres?
From what I am seeing, also from what the president transmits to me, I believe that we have to try to have a clear objective. The club makes a great effort to bring in boys from outside, also from the Community, to try to get them into the first team. I think there are players with potential. The subsidiary is a bit in the same dynamic as the first team, but the other day they played a good game. I saw the Honor Division; also the Cadet, which coincided with my arrival with the renewal of the left-handed center-back who plays for the National Team (Borja Cortina). In the end, the club makes a great effort so that the school brings out talent. They are players with personality. The truth is that there are nuances with the player from here in inferiors, such as the player in Vigo, the Galician player. There are many for the first team. We must try to consolidate all this work. That they are not players who come and reach the Division of Honor or the subsidiary and end up being lost. Players like Pepelu, who had to go out and get the beans in Portugal for a couple of years, Dani Cárdenas, Marc Pubill… Trying to get all those guys, all the effort made from the base, to see it reflected in the first team. Because I think there is great potential. I saw him the other day against Athletic Bilbao (in the youth Copa del Rey).
At Celta they promoted Rubén, Fontán, Domínguez, Vázquez, Mallo, Denis, Brais, Mina, Aspas… It shows that you believe in that quarry project. Here you have the Pepelu and Cárdenas. Do you see them as references?
Belonging is something important, but it depends on the people. There are players who belong… well. I’ve been to different places and for me it’s important, but the most important thing is to love football and love your profession. I have been to Tenerife, Gijón… many places, and the most important thing is to love the profession and be a good professional. Then, on top of that, if you play in the team where you are from, where you grew up from, where you came from the bottom and the youth coaches raised you, then much better. But for me the most important thing is to love football and love the profession. That Pepelu and Cárdenas can be references depends on them. Also from the club, of course. There are good players. Others are brought in from abroad, but develop their careers here, like Marc Pubill himself. We hope that all this work that is done in the school will have a slightly greater impact. It is not easy to get players every year, but it is easy to create and commit to it in order to have more players than those who are formed in our base.
In Galicia, the reference team today Celta is the reference. In the Valencian Community, with four teams in the First Division, I understand that the cake is shared more.
Is not easy. It is normal. It is not easy to compete with Villarreal or Valencia. But we have to find a space for everyone and we have to assert ourselves with what we propose. Each proposes a model. We are sure that we have a value and surely when players come here it is with that in mind. In the end, what we have to offer is that here there is a future in the first team, as other clubs like Villarreal have been forming from the bottom. From there, it sure gets complicated, but there is room for everyone. There are many players and many children who want to play and find them. Sometimes you are not wanted in one place and you succeed in the other. We are going to have that space and we are going to fight to be bigger. Above all, because the club has a large infrastructure, I don’t know about the others, but I do know what we have, compared to what we had in Vigo, and we have a structure to make us respect ourselves. The other day we beat Valencia with Cadet A and last year in the Division of Honor they were League champions. That is a job that is very nice, but above all it is so that players for the first team come out of that generation. In one there will be two or three; in others perhaps none. But we do have the idea of why we do things.
