XGIMI continues trying to strengthen the Spanish market with its latest releases. This time we have tested a UST projector, that is, a high-end ultra-short throw laser, the Aura 2. Obviously it is still an infinitely more expensive proposal than a television, since it comes with a price of 2,899 euros. But in exchange we can have a movie screen at home.
The XGIMI Aura 2 has a throw ratio of 0.177:1; In other words, it is capable of projecting a 100-inch image from a distance of just 17.8 cm from the wall, making it a perfect option to achieve a home theater experience when you have a short distance away. projection.
One of the disadvantages of projectors is that in bright environments the image loses a lot of quality. The Aura 2 has Dual Light 2.0 technology, which provides a brightness of 2,300 ISO lumens, enough to project a certain amount of light in the room. . However, during the day it will look better if we can mitigate the amount of light coming in from outside.
In addition, the device has a 4K native resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels), supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, ensuring images with vibrant and accurate colors. The projector also comes with automatic wall color adaptation, allowing it to adjust to different hues, which is useful if you don’t have a screen and use the wall to project. By simply using your mobile phone to scan the surface, the projector adapts only the color and projection. The latter through the Wall Flatness Adaptation function, which helps improve projection even on uneven surfaces, making the installation more versatile.
One of the Aura 2’s strong points is its automatic image adjustment capabilities, including autofocus and automatic keystone correction. Although, for this there cannot be a single obstacle or corner of anything in the path of the laser beam, otherwise the automatic focus fails.
The Aura 2 in its design looks like a great speaker, it practically does not look like a projector when not in use. XGIMI has made the right choice by avoiding the more classic projector designs, and choosing an appearance that integrates perfectly into any living room. In addition, the lenses are hidden when not in use, which prevents dust from entering them, but also disguises their appearance.
Probably one of the aspects we liked the most about the device is the sound, with a 60W Harman/Kardon speaker system, compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD, which allows a high-quality listening experience without the need to install speakers additional. In terms of connectivity, it is quite complete, offering Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, three HDMI ports (one with eARC), three USB ports and a LAN port.
An improvable operating system
It is in the operating system where it fails slightly, since the projector arrives with Android TV 11, released 4 years agoand this one has some limitations. A high-end device should have the latest version, which is Google TV, but it doesn’t. For example, Netflix is not available natively, which can be an inconvenience for those who are fans of this platform. Something that forces you to use another device, such as a Fire Stick or a ChromeCast, somewhat exaggerated, on a device that costs almost 3,000 euros.
The XGIMI Aura 2 is one of the best projectors we’ve tested, with a great design, cinematic 4K image and fantastic sound quality. If we can ignore the outdated operating system, and that we will not be able to use Netflix directly, it is a great option to have a cinema experience at home.
