We have been with him for a month Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6the sixth generation of the most popular folding on the market. Although a few years ago it was the first, and the only one on the market, now it has extensive competition.
The design of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 maintains the essence that has made this phone one of the most popular in the high-end, especially among influencers. When folded, its compact size is ideal for carrying in any pocket, making it a very convenient option for those looking for portability without sacrificing a large screen.
The screen hidden inside is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED x2, and 120 Hz refresh rate. A promising panel on paper, which delivers, and which has improved when used in direct light. The screen fold is still visiblesomething we already expected, but over time you get used to ignoring it.
Even so, it remains one of the aspects that breaks the illusion of a completely uniform device. What has improved considerably is the resistance of the hinge, which feels more robust, although it is only a sensation. Samsung promises more than 400,000 folds, which is more than five years of use.
The big change compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the external screen, which is now much larger, 3.4 inches Super AMOLED, and functional. It gives you the possibility of interacting with the most used applications such as WhatsApp, Google Maps or YouTube without need to open the phone. Which saves you from constantly opening it every time you receive a message, although it does not replace the interior.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy is the same processor that powers the Galaxy S24, which powers this device. In our tests, it has proven to be fast and efficient, handling multitasking without problems. Even with multiple apps open in Flex mode, the phone shows no signs of slowing down.
What has surprised us the most is how well artificial intelligence handles image processing when using the camera. Although the Flip 6’s lenses are not the most advanced within Samsung, the photo processing, thanks to the new Qualcomm chip, makes photos appear sharper and more detailedespecially in low light conditions.
The cameras, their weak point
But, this is where the Galaxy Z Flip 6 shows a slight weakness. Despite having a main camera that has increased to 50 megapixels from 12 in the previous version, 12 in the ultra wide angle and a 10 MP front camera, the quality of the photos is somewhat behind what you would expect in a Samsung premium device.
They are not bad cameras, but when comparing them with those of the Galaxy S24 Ultra or any high-end mobile, the difference is notable. Flex mode is one of the advantages for taking high-quality selfies using the main camera thanks to the external screen. However, in landscape photography or low-light situations, the lack of OIS in the ultra wide angle is noticeable. The 2x optical zoom is there almost as a token.
The Flip 6 has a 4,000 mAh battery, which in normal use lasts a full day. However, if you are one of those who uses the internal screen intensively, the battery may be short. During our testing, battery life has been enough for a day of moderate use, but if you’re constantly opening and closing the phone or using the external screen a lot, you may need to charge it before the day is over. Fortunately, the 25W fast charge is efficient and in just over an hour you have the device ready for a new day of use, although it is somewhat short for the high-end.
Is it worth it?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a device that offers great portability, an innovative design and software perfectly adapted to the folding format. The external display is now on par with the competition. In exchange, we lose the quality expected in the cameras despite being in the high range.
