We tested the new Kindle Scribe, version 2024, an evolution of the popular Amazon electronic book released in 2022, with both reading and writing functionalities on its large 10.2 -inch electronic ink screen and a 300 ppi resolution. Its main characteristic is that it combines the experience of a traditional e-reader with the capacities of a digital notebook.
The 2022 version quickly became a popular device to take notes, an alternative more similar to paper, for those who had become accustomed to taking notes on a tablet.
One of the big changes with respect to the 2022 model is in the design, now has uniform white edges and a surface surface, improving the aesthetics and ergonomics of the device. It is available in tungsten and metallic jade colors, the latter exclusive for the 64 GB version. To us the modernized redesign has loved us. While the previous version, it had too much “Kindle”, this new one has its own differentiated design, and much more current.
Another improvements is the new premium pencil, designed to offer a feeling of realistic writing. It includes a soft tip and a draft at the opposite end, replicating the experience of using a traditional pencil. The feeling of writing with the new pencil is almost like being using paper, and the almost instantaneous response.
News in software
The rest of the novelties are found within the Kindle Scribe, in the software, this 2024 version expands the writing options with improved templates, organization tools and a more fluid synchronization with external applications, in addition to writing recognition. In general, the entire system improves to be able to take notes, both in documents and in books, or in its dynamic templates. The same to share notes made in a book or in a document, even editing collaboratively.
The dynamic templates range from, calendar to agendas, thematic notebooks or tasks that can be synchronized with other devices, through Microsoft Onenote, PDFS documents and Amazon Cloud Updates. As for the organization, you can create folders with notes, mark important documents or searches for hand notes.
It may be our thing, but we would have loved that Amazon would have included this time the possibility of linking a Bluetooth keyboard.
Is it worth it?
The Kindle Scribes 2024 retains the solid bases of the 2022 model, but improves the design, pencil and writing functionalities, making it more attractive to users looking for a versatile device. It is probably not worth updating if you already have the 2022 model, the same, if your main objective is not to take notes, to read, a smaller Kindle is much more comfortable.
