At least seven mayors of Mexico City will face interruptions in the water supply today because failures in the Lerma Systemcaused by recent power outages.
The Water System of Mexico City (Sacmex) warned about the interruption of the drinking water supply in several areas of the capital, derived from electrical problems in the Lerma System.
According to the agency, the failures occurred during the night of May 26 and the early morning of May 27affecting the production of water from this important source of supply.
Although Sacmex, together with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), managed to restore electrical service at 7:00 p.m. on May 27, water production will be temporarily compromised.
The reduction in supply will mainly impact the Tuesday May 28reducing service hours in several areas of the city.
Which municipalities are affected by lack of water today?
The municipalities most affected by this situation will be the following municipalities since they depend on the water supply of the Lerma Norte and El Cartero branches:
■ Álvaro Obregón
■ Azcapotzalco
■ Benito Juárez
■ Cuajimalpa
■ Cuauhtémoc
■ Miguel Hidalgo
■ Venustiano Carranza.
Recommendations for water outages
Given this situation, Sacmex has urged the population to intensify water saving measures. As well as minimizing the use of drinking water in daily activities, such as showering, washing hands and dishes.
It is also recommended to take short baths of no more than five minutes and collect the initial cold water from the shower for secondary uses, such as washing fruit, cleaning the home or watering plants.
In addition, it is requested to avoid watering gardens and washing patios, sidewalks or vehicles with drinking water, and it is advised not to use clothes washing machines while the reduction in supply persists.
