Warner Bros. Discovery, with its video game division, seems to be intent on focusing more and more on free-to-play games that have the potential to bring in regular revenue.
Warner Bros. Games is not in an easy situation. According to a recent report, the parent company is interested in selling part of its gaming division – seen as a “minor” part – and now we find out that the plans may not be just that.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO – David Zaslav – he actually attended a meeting with investors and said what some of his plans are for the future.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO’s Comment
Zaslav said: “We have 11 studios here, and we have a lot of IP. And there’s also a lot of interest from others to leverage some of these gaming IPs, which we are looking into.”
And he continued: “Because, as he said [il presidente dello streaming globale e dei giochi JB Perrette]we have to get biggerand the IP that we own and the value that it has in the gaming space is something that we’re trying to leverage.”
Zaslav explained that the success of Hogwarts Legacy was due to the fact that players were able to immerse themselves in the world, and now Zaslav wants to make video games a priority.
During the meeting, Perrette also stressed that Warner Bros. is looking to grow in the film industry free to play games to balance the long development periods of premium console and PC products, which are too easily at risk of failure. With this kind of plan in mind, Warner Bros. has acquired Player First, the developer of the free-to-play game MultiVersus.
