Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team), leader of the Vuelta, considers that the Spanish Enrique More and the slovenian Primoz Roglic, second and third overall, are his two “most important” rivals after the day at La Fancuaya, where the Belgian finished “happy with the sensations”.
“I said that the objective was not to lose time and if I saw the opportunity, to win it. I have gained time on many riders except the two most important ones, Primoz Roglic and Enric Mas.”said.

And I add: “It was nice to see Primoz strong, it’s a good thing for the race. I have given my best. My team was superb, we controlled from the start and it wasn’t easy! Congratulations to all my teammates, because they pushed me to this result”.
What awaits you?
A first test in Asturias in which Evenepoel showed that he is a solid leader, but, apart from overconfidence, he respectfully awaits the new mountain assault this Sunday with the end in Les Praeres.
“I am very happy with the sensations I had. I hope I can recover very well, because tomorrow I will need renewed legs for a tough stage. HI have seen other years than in Les Praeres there weren’t very big distances, but of course if you blow up you’re lost in a port like that,” he said.
A port that the Belgian considers appropriate for his conditions, where he does not rule out raising his arms as the winner.
“I know that it is a port that suits me very well in terms of duration, so I will give it my all. My team is very strong. We will try to defend the red jersey and, why not, try to win the stage. It would be very nice” , he concluded.
