Vox votes against the Budget of the Burgos City Council because the PP includes aid to NGOs

Vox votes against the Budget of the Burgos City Council in the Finance Commission after the PP has returned aid to NGOs that work with migrants and that it had excluded at the request of the far-right party. The opinion issued by the Commission is negative, and the final vote on the Budget Project – which will include those items for ACCEM, Burgos Acoge and Atalaya Intercultural – will take place this Friday in the municipal plenary session.

The configuration of the current government team, of PP and Vox, remains up in the air awaiting Friday’s plenary session, as well as a possible question of trust that the mayor of Burgos, Cristina Ayala, should raise if her accounts do not go ahead. this week.

The Councilor for the Treasury and president of the Commission, Ángel Manzanedo, explained in the press conference after the meeting that the opinion was negative: both Vox and PSOE have voted against after they have refused to accept the proposal. in voice of Vox to reinforce the items for Children, Youth and the Elderly – so as not to “alter” the initial budget, according to Manzanedo – and that the president has imposed his criteria in the debate of the opinion.

The Treasury Councilor explained that in this case a “transfer of items” has been carried out without modifying the total of the initial budget by moving the necessary funds from the Mayor’s subsidy item to those corresponding to these three Burgos NGOs.

Waiting for Vox

In the Burgos City Council, everyone is waiting for Vox’s next move. “From here to the plenary session there is a long process of days to determine certain things,” said Manzanedo, who did not want to “venture” into the next steps that the far-right party and, consequently, the PP may take.

If either party breaks up the local government, the Burgos municipal scenario is expected to be busy: if the issue of Cristina Ayala’s trust does not go ahead, the opposition could try to articulate a motion of censure, a very unlikely scenario because the PSOE would need the support of Vox and it is something that the socialists of Burgos completely rule out. The 2025 budget project would be automatically approved once all these procedures have been passed to facilitate the operability of the local Administration, according to municipal sources.

The Socialist Party maintains its command tending towards an agreement with the Popular Party if it breaks with Vox, recovers the agreements it had until 2023 regarding Democratic Memory and restores 100% of the funds destined for Development Cooperation that it already cut for the budget of 2024.

The socialists also demand to agree at 50% on the future credit modification of the Budgets and, in this way, they undertake to “facilitate” the approval of the current Budget. “These are minimum conditions and with that the Budget can go out. “My offer stands until the budget is approved,” says the former mayor and spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group, Daniel de la Rosa, in statements to this medium.

Criticism from Cáritas and a massive protest

The Popular Party – which for days said that if they governed alone this aid would not be eliminated – rectified the veto of aid to the NGOs ACCEM, Burgos Acoge and Atalaya Intercultural last Thursday after Cáritas renounced its aid if it was exclusive and that thousands of people protested at the doors of the town hall in favor of the coexistence and social inclusion of the immigrant population.

Last week, the mayor of Burgos refused to “break” the “stability” that her coalition with Vox entails, which will now have to decide whether to reject the budgets and leave the municipal government. Ayala could present a question of confidence to approve the 2025 municipal budgets if Vox refuses to support the accounts, as the former mayor of Palencia Mario Simón did in 2022.

This afternoon in the plenary session of the Cortes of Castilla y León, the socialists will ask the president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, his position regarding support for NGOs that work with migrants.
