Vox uses the Catholic Monarchs against historians: “History does not entail the need for official versions”

Vox has taken advantage of the commemoration of the 555th anniversary of the wedding of the Catholic Monarchs to accuse the other parties of using the history of Spain as a “throwing weapon for purely electoral purposes” while celebrating this event with the exclusive presence of their presidents of the autonomous legislative in the city of Valladolid.

The anniversary brought together the president of the Cortes of Castilla y León, Carlos Pollán, and his counterparts from Aragón, Marta Fernández; the Corts Valencianas, Llanos Massó, and the head of the legislature of the Balearic Islands, the controversial Gabriel Le Senne. According to the Cortes of Castilla y León, all the presidents of the parliaments were invited to this event, but only those from Vox attended, who remain in office despite the breakup of the autonomous governments that supported them.

Furthermore, the host Carlos Pollán defended in his speech that we must recover the most luminous episodes in the history of Spain, disdaining the work of historians, “contrary to what is said, history is not the exclusive heritage of historians, it is common heritage.” of everyone, which does not entail the need for official versions.” Pollán is the head of the Castilla y León Foundation, which has dedicated itself to spreading ideology close to Vox, motivating the PP to set up another one and the abandonment of the majority of its board.

The president of the Cortes of Aragon, Marta Fernández, alluded to the ‘Black Legend’ of Spain, denying its existence and pointing out that her duty is to “continue working against the hoax and manipulation that, for spurious reasons, some have been in charge of disseminating”, defending “a united and diverse Spain, in the context of a Hispanidad where the work of the Spanish nation was decisive and enormously positive.”

The celebration, which commemorates the clandestine nuptials of Isabel of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon on October 19, 1469, consisted of a reading of texts and a floral offering at the foot of the statue of the Catholic Monarchs located in the Palace of Santa Cross of Valladolid. Subsequently, a theatrical recreation was carried out at the headquarters of the Cortes of Castilla y León.

This event is part of a collaboration agreement between the Cortes of Aragon and the Castilla y León Foundation, which seeks to promote the historical and cultural heritage of both communities, signed when both were already controlled by Vox.
