CIUDAD REAL.- Vox goes one step further in its denialism and in Ciudad Real, where it is in charge of the Department of Citizen Security, it has decided to suppress the Local Police Gender Violence Unit and thus – they justify – “eliminating any ideological gender term” from said body.
This was announced by the deputy mayor of the bipartite government, Ricardo Chamorro, who with this name change not only erases the term of the name of this unit, but also empties it of its specific function, that of protecting women victims of sexist violence, by “expanding” its scope of action to “objectively focus on all types of victims of violence.”
In this way, the new Judicial Protection and Support Unit of the Ciudad Real City Council, governed by the PP of Francisco Cañizares and his Vox partners They give a further twist towards the positions of the extreme right, thus accepting the approaches of Santiago Abascal’s formation as good.
A decision that, according to Chamorro, also a national representative, is justified because the Gender Violence Unit “protected only victims of a certain level of the VioGén system”, hence he defends that with the change “assistance is expanded.”
From Vox Ciudad Real they insist that the new unit “takes into account the criminal degree and the severity of the type”, being “violence in the family environment, a violence that must be eradicated with all the tools available.”
To this end, they argue, the new Judicial Protection and Support Unit will be made up of the UCJA, whose operation was autonomous until now to be in charge of attending to judicial collaborations and other administrations, and the new ‘Atenea section’, with which it is dispatched regarding violence in a broad spectrum, thus replacing the specific unity that Ciudad Real had until now. This new section, they explain from Vox, will address “the judicial protection of all victims of violence.”
176 WOMEN NEED FOLLOW-UP IN THE CITY
A new denialist movement of the bipartite government of PP and Vox, before which the opposition asks for “sanity.” This has been stated by the municipal PSOE, which demands the councilor, Francisco Cañizares, to “put order” in the “misdeeds” of his partner.
The socialists recall that the specific unit has only two agents who are exclusively dedicated to monitoring protection orders against women victims of gender violence in collaboration with the National Police. And, they emphasize, in the capital Ciudad Real there are 176 women who need this monitoring to be carried out.
For this reason, they believe that it is not worth arguing supposed ideological reasons, since “gender violence is a problem that affects the entire society” and that “must be fought.”
“Only for Vox it is an ideological question, that is why we ask Cañizares, who does not belong to this formation, but to the PP, which is supposed to be a party that does defend the protection of female victims, to stop his councilor and reverse this decision.
“THE MOMENT TO PUT FOOT ON THE WALL”
For their part, the regional government asks the mayor to “clarify” if this unit is actually going to be deleted and they believe that “the time has come for the PP to put its foot down.”
This was pointed out by the Minister of Equality, Sara Simón, who regretted that the Popular Party is “protecting” a party that denies sexist violence, which is why they have demanded that the party break its government coalitions with Vox, a party that “denies this structural inequality” that translates into “murders of women.
For Simón, the decision announced by Vox is “really serious”, which is why he has called on the PP to “return to the path of consensus.”
From the regional PSOE, for its part, its Secretary of Organization, Sergio Gutiérrez, has asked “what sense does it make to remove the units from the local police to protect women from their aggressors”, while pointing out that it is not about a question of ideology, but “it is, above all, a savage“.
