Volvo has announced promising results for the month of August, recording global sales of 52,944 cars, with a 3% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. An increase that was mainly driven by fully electric modelswhich have achieved excellent results in Europe. On the contrary, they have shown signs of difficulty on the Chinese market.
Growth of electrified models
Sales of electrified passenger cars, which include both fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, increased 47% compared to August 2023, representing 47% of total sales. In particular, fully electric vehicles accounted for 25% of global sales in the month. In the period between January and August, Volvo registered a total of 498,464 cars globally, an increase of 11 percent compared to the same period last year.
Trends in the markets
In EuropeAugust sales reached 21,119 units, marking a 32% increase over last year. Here, electrified models showed a 52% growth, accounting for 73% of total sales. In United States, deliveries in August, however, suffered a slight decline of 2%, with a total of 10,420 vehicles registered. In ChinaFinally, Volvo sold 12,185 cars, down 23% from August last year. In this case, sales of electrified models increased by 10%, to 1,233 units.
Volvo Model Sales
Among the best-selling models, the Volvo XC60 maintained first place with 14,723 units sold, although there was a decrease compared to the previous year (there were 16,476 in 2023). Second place for the XC40/EX40 with 10,668 units (13,942 in 2023), the lowest step of the podium instead for the new EX30 which totaled 8,346 sales, a significant figure considering that in 2023 it was not yet on the market.
