Engines at maximum for the sixth edition of “The Silver Fox Invitational”an event in which the passion for historic cars meets that of golf, giving life to a double event: on the one hand the prestigious “Amateur Challenge” golf competitionon the other side “Silver Fox Exhibition”, an exhibition of rare (and beautiful) historic cars. Scheduled for Sunday 16 June at Park of Rome Golf Club, “La Volpe Argentata Invitational” was born from an idea of the rally champion Prisca Taruffi to pay homage to the figure of his father Piero, a legendary driver nicknamed “Silver Fox” due to the color of his hair and the cunning he showed on the track during competitions.
Volpe Argentata Invitational: tribute to Piero Taruffi
A real one legend of the steering wheel whose palmares include very important victories such as the Targa Florio, the Tour of Sicily, the Carrera Panamericano and the 1957 Mille Miglia at the wheel of the Ferrari 315 S, a car now on display at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello (among other things, he was responsible for designing many unforgettable cars and prototypes, as well as the Vallelunga Autodrome named after him). And the Mille Miglia will be the theme of this latest edition, in the wake of the film “Ferrari” by Michael Mann in which Piero Taruffi is played by the actor Patrick Dempsey, a film that will be projected in loop during the evening together with an emotional clip which portrays the salient moments of his career. For the first time, some of his memorabilia will also be exhibited: the cup and the road book of the 1957 Mille Miglia, the helmet, the gloves currently kept inside the Vallelunga racetrack.
Volpe Argentata Invitational: the historic car exhibition
The central moment of the evening will be the exhibition: of historic cars, 40 jewels ranging from pre-war to the 70s owned by various collectors including Nicola Bulgari, a great admirer of American cars produced in the first half of the last century. The respective winners will be awarded a scale model of the famous “Bitorpedo”, a vehicle designed by Taruffi of which there are only two examples in the world.
There will be no lack of solidarity from golfers thanks to the charity hall, supported by the Hassler hotel in favor of CABSS – Deaf and Deafblind Children’s Assistance Center. The “Amateur Challenge” is considered the most glamorous event of the year for all Italian golfers, where fun is combined with competition. Sponsored by CONI, the Lazio Regional Committee of the Italian Golf Federation, ACI, ACI Storico and Museo Mille Miglia Brescia, the event will culminate in an elegant Gala Dinner, again in honor of the unforgettable and unforgettable Pietro Taruffi.
