The future of Volkswagen Polo may not be completely compromised. The initial proposals relating to emissions legislation Euro 7which should have been introduced this year, would have been lethal against the German compact car, but their easing has opened up rather different scenarios for the model, which now, according to the Wolfsburg car manufacturer itself, could live for at least another five years.
The future of Volkswagen Polo
“The new ‘EU6e’ regulation It’s not that crazy as was initially hypothesized. As a result, I can say that Polo will continue.”, said Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schafer. We remind you that the new rules will come into force from 1 September 2024 and will impose the same emission limits as the EU6 standards for cars and vans. Translated: they will have a minimal impact on the Polo’s homologation cost. Which at this point, explains Schafer, will definitely be able to survive until the end of the decade.
Constant updates
“We will keep it updatedbut in itself the car works quite well and represents a good entry point into our brand”added Volkswagen’s number one, opening the door to a substantial series of medium-term updates for align Polo technologically to its more recent range companions. However, one thing should not be forgotten according to Schafer: the easing of the Euro 7 measures does not represent the end of all problems for Volkswagen Polo.
Not just Euro 7
“The EU7 was done sensibly, because it adds cost to the vehicle but not too crazily – said the CEO of the German brand – What increases the costs enormously is the General Safety Regulation 2, which imposes internal cameras and a couple of other things that you need to add to the platform. So this is the real complicationeven if we have already respected it with all the brands, and I think we can continue on this path”.
