In presenting it, Volkswagen called it a Bulli for the full electric future of mobility. Let’s talk about the new ID. Buzz, presented by the German company after weeks of incessant waiting, and with which Volkswagen itself aims to offer another solution for sustainable and CO2-free mobility. Available in the standard and in the Cargo version, the new ID. Buzz is equipped with the latest generation ID software, setting new standards in its segment with the latest systems and functions that maximize safety, comfort and the charging phase.
And precisely the aspect linked to technologies and connectivity was one of the most exalted by Volkswagen. There are many driver assistance systems offered as standard on the new ID. Buzz, from the “Front Assist” emergency braking to the “Lane Assist” lane keeping system, passing through the new “Car2X” local alarm system. But technology also means autonomous driving: this is why Volkswagen also makes available the “Travel Assist with swarm data” functions on request, which facilitates partially automated driving at any speed and for the first time assisted lane change on the motorway, and the “Memory Function” for automated parking on a previously saved route.
As mentioned, it is a zero-emission vehicle thanks to its 100% electric powertrain. Throughout Europe the new ID. Buzz, also in the Cargo version, is offered with a 82 kWh lithium-ion battery, which supplies energy to a 150 kW electric motor: Volkswagen has not yet revealed what the vehicle’s range is yet. European customers of the new ID. Buzz will be able to take advantage of bidirectional charging, a feature that will help the vehicle power the grid by stabilizing power, although this will require the installation of a bidirectional DC Wallbox. When it comes to taking advantage of conventional recharging, however, the new ID. Buzz is capable of handling 11 kW AC power or 170 kW DC fast charging – times are around 30 minutes for 5% to 80% energy recovery. Volkswagen’s “Plug & Charge” system will also be introduced later, thanks to which customers will be able to link their ID. Buzz at the charging socket and billing will be done automatically in the background.
From a point of view of design, the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz boasts a style characterized by clearly retro-inspired elements: think of the large VW logo, the stacked taillights, or the large V-shaped hood, all aesthetic specifications that do their best to evoke the memories of the iconic predecessor. However, there is a whole series of avant-garde elements, one above all the LED Matrix “Light” headlights. The exterior livery can be finished with a number of two-tone tone options, although a range of single colors is also available. The top-of-the-range versions of the standard variant of the new ID.Buzz will be equipped with 18 “or 21” aluminum alloy wheels, while the basic versions of the standard variant and all versions of the Cargo variant will sport 18 “steel wheels. ″. As for the interior, Volkswagen has opted for recycled and synthetic materials. Technologically speaking, the presence of a 10 “digital display combined with a 10” infotainment system stands out, which can be replaced with an optional 12 “unit. The production of the new ID. Buzz will take place at the Hanover plant from the first half of 2022: prices are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
