In recent days, an indiscretion had emerged according to which the start of production of the new Volkswagen ID.2, the new electric compact car from the German brand which will be launched on the market with a price of less than 25,000 euros, would be postponed. Actually programs don't change: it was the German car manufacturer itself that denied reports that spoke of a postponement of the assembly operations of the new car, thus confirming 2025 as a good year to see the first examples of low-cost electric cars coming off the production lines.
No postponements
“It was said that we would postpone the ID.2all to 2026, But it's not true. We are working on ID.2all always in the same period of time – Volkswagen's head of technical development, Kai Grünitz, clarified to Autocar, speaking of the almost homonymous concept car on which the new standard ID.2 will be based – This is the 36 month development timeline which we switched to in early 2023. If we think back to last year when we revealed the ID.2all, we had worked for eight weeks on that project, and we can see what came of it.”
Euro 7 impact
The rumors that in recent days had led to a postponement of the production of the model for a few months had referred to the postponement of the new regulations on Euro 7 engines as the cause of the decision: the new rules were in fact postponed compared to the original entry into force deadline set previously, an element that could have affected Volkswagen's original plans. But that won't be the case: Volkswagen does not change its mind, the new ID.2 will reach production in 2025.
