Volkswagen is thinking of close some plants in Germany, but not only. It seems that the German giant is about to behave in the same way with at least one of the plants managed in China together with its local partner SAIC. At least one? Yes, because the decision at the moment concerns the plant in Nankingbut there is a continuing hypothesis that other production sites in the Asian country could also close their doors.
Volkswagen closing a plant in China?
As mentioned, however, the main suspect in this sense is the Nanjing plant, where the production of Passat and Skoda: The site, which has an annual capacity of 360,000 vehicles, could close as early as next year. Bloomberg reported this, referring to a decision taken by the joint venture between Volkswagen and SAIC “in response to the slowdown in demand for cars with internal combustion engines“.
Not just Nanjing
Is that all? Far from it. Ansa reports that a second plant has reduced production and it could also be closed, or at least undergo a revision. Let us recall in this sense that at its headquarters in Shanghai, two years ago, the joint venture between Volkswagen and SAIC stopped production in a plant that had been open since the mid-1980s.
