Thirteenth edition
Big party at Villa d’Este for the thirteenth edition of Villa d’Este Style One Lake One Car, a unique show in the world created precisely to celebrate the legendary Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS “Villa d’Este”a unique and special car which, after the triumph of the first example at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 1949, received the name of the same location.
The event was the prologue to the “RealAlfa” Elegance Competition in Arese, which was held a short while ago and represents an ideal bridge with the “classic” Villa d’Este Elegance Competition, just won among other things by an Alfa Romeo, confirming the importance of these cars in the history of motoring…
A piece of automotive history
Villa d’Este Style One Lake One Car It is thus part of a series of events dedicated to classic cars that pass on Villa d’Este’s long tradition of elegance and automotive history.
And it is no coincidence that for the occasion, a rendezvous was organized which celebrated the Alfa Romeo legend thanks to the collaboration with the Italian Registry Alfa Romeo (RIAR). A partnership that allowed the display of 12 carefully selected cars belonging to the various series of the 6C line, characterized by the six-cylinder in-line engine. And let’s talk about a car – the series 6C – conceived and perfected by Vittorio Jano, one of the most important motoring technicians in the world, who built the fame and sporting DNA of Alfa Romeo in the years between 1927 and 1952.
Five rare pieces
Five examples of the extremely rare 6C 2500SS “Villa d’Este” were present in Cernobbio during the event. Of these, 18 examples still exist worldwide of the 32 built. The real surprise was the first participation of a 6C 2500SS “Villa d’Este” which, for many years, was owned by a well-known Milanese stylist, remaining “hidden” from the public.
Among the other Alfa Romeo 6Cs present at the event, the most notable was the 6C 1500 dating back to the late 1920s. This is the oldest known example in the world, as well as two racing cars: a 6C 2300 “Mille Miglia” and a 6C 2300 GT “Pescara” who raced for Scuderia Ferrari.(vb)
