Mateus Uribe has not had an easy season at Al Sadd, in Qatar’s first division. An injury took him off the court for four months and he is just returning to competition. He reappeared last May 1st.
Uribe had a problem with his biceps femoris, which took him out of the Colombian National Team call for the matches against Spain and Romania and left him incapacitated for almost two months.
The midfielder, a key piece for coach Néstor Lorenzo in the National Team, had played 16 games with Al Sadd in all competitions. But this Friday he appeared as a starter and was an important player.
Uribe scored the goal with which Al Sadd was crowned champion of the Qatar Prince’s Cup. He did it in the 118th minute, to defeat Qatar SC in extra time.
It is the second goal he has scored with that shirt. The first was in the Asian Champions League, against Nasaf Qarshi of Uzbekistan, on December 4.
Mateus Uribe reached 17 titles in his career
The Prince’s Cup is the second title that Mateus Uribe wins with the Al Sadd shirt. He had already been crowned League champion this season.
With the two he has in Qatar, Uribe has won 17 tournaments in his career: with Atlético Nacional he won four: two local (Copa Colombia in 2016 and the League in 2017-I) and two international (Copa Libertadores in 2016 and Recopa Sudamericana in 2017).
Then, at Porto in Portugal, Uribe won two Leagues (2020 and 2022), three Portuguese Cups (2020, 2022 and 2023), one League Cup (2023) and two Portuguese Super Cups (2020 and 2022).
