An unusual penalty occurred this Sunday in the match between ABC de Natal and Maranhao, in the Northeast League of Brazil. What began as a heroic save by the visiting team's goalkeeper ended with the final equalizer
ABC had taken the lead in the 15th minute, with a goal from Wallyson, but Maranhao turned it around with goals from Vinicius Barata, at 46, and Clessione, at 62.
In one of the last plays of the game, Maranhao's goalkeeper, Moisés, made a save from a shot by Walfrido, an ABC attacker. Defender Yann, Moisés' teammate, was filled with emotion and came up to congratulate him.In the midst of the euphoria, Yann crouched down and slapped the ball twice, which the goalkeeper was holding. The referee, Bruno Nogueira, became active and awarded a penalty: the ball was in play!
The most curious thing about the matter is that ABC missed the penalty: Moisés saved the charge from the Chilean Joaquín Parraguez, but then, on the rebound, the ball was left to the same collector, who sent it inside.
Fortunately for both teams, it was the first date of the championship. But the play is going around the world.
