Edwuin Cetré arrived at Estudiantes de La Plata this semester, after playing in the final of the 2023-II League with Independiente Medellín, and has already earned an important place on the team. He was key in helping ‘Pincharrata’ win the League Cup.
Now, Cetré is once again key for the team led by Eduardo Domínguez to have a good start in the Professional League. This Monday he scored his first goal in that tournament, in the match against Riestra.
The goal came in the 42nd minute, after referee Fernando Espinoza sanctioned a penalty for a handball by also Colombian Yeison Murillo, the namesake of the one who played for the Colombian National Team. Cetré hit the ball and scored the lead for Estudiantes.
His rivals did not like the play, and shortly afterward they went looking for him to hit him. Defender Alan Barrionuevo made a very strong tackle shortly after the goal and Murillo also went to cheer him on.
In the end, Espinoza ended up warning the two Colombians, in one of the last plays of the first half. Incredibly, Barrionuevo came clean.
The attitude of Riestra’s players generated criticism on social networks. “The Riestra players, who were promoted to First Division due to referee favors and kicking half the world, feel offended because Cetré gave them a penalty. Who do they think they are? Trash handsome guys. The goalkeeper would have stood still and been ready “wrote the experienced journalist Diego Borinsky in his X account.
Although Cetré generally charges hard and to the center, it is not the first time he has received a penalty. Journalist Cristian Ortiz recalled that he had already done the same thing twice, when he played for DIM.
