Jerry Miller Passes Away at the Age of 81
The 81 year old passed away last night Jerry Miller. He was the guitarist and co-founder of one of the most famous American groups of the so-called 1960s Summer of Lovei Moby Grape.
The journalist gave the sad news Eric Brenner who expressed his painful condolences for this passing through his social pages.
“It is with heavy hearts that I have been asked to inform you that Jerry Miller passed away this morning at 11:00 am. Please respect Jo and give her some time to get over this tragedy.”
The famous musician passed away in his hometown, Tacomanot far from Washington where he had returned in the distant 1995. A dramatic event that occurred in 2009 had put him to the test: following a flood, Jerry Miller had lost many of his belongings, but he had managed to save his dog and his favorite guitar, the Gibson L-5 CES who was calling Beulah.
Jerry Miller’s Career
At the beginning of his musical career, Miller could boast of having collaborated and shared some musical experiences with names of the calibre of Jimi Hendrix And Larry Coryell.
Member of the group of Francis which had a fair amount of public response especially in the Seattle area, Jerry Miller’s name also appears in the first versions of the song I Fought the Law Of Bobby Fuller.
After moving to San Francisco, Miller founded the musical group called Moby Grape together with the guitarists Peter Lewis And Skip SpenceHere the musician had the opportunity to express his talents to the best of his ability, distinguishing himself thanks to a style that is quite recognisable among rock, blues and pop country.
Professional success with Moby Grape and partnerships with other artists
Moby Grape were undoubtedly one of the musical reference groups of the Summer of Love during the 1960s. Their musical activity is mainly concentrated between the album Moby Grape of 1967 and 20 Granite Creek of 1971.
The group had its ups and downs, breaking up and reforming on several occasions, mostly because of one of its members, Skip Spence, who was kicked out due to drug problems and mental instability. During this time, Miller had the opportunity to play and perform with well-known artists such as Cat Power And Michael Stipe of the REM And Robert Plant who defined Moby Grace as fundamental for the music of the Led ZeppelinOf Stephen Stills and of Eric Clapton.
The group’s last reunion took place in 2007 with a concert featuring Miller, Moseley and Lewis, along with drummer Don Stevenson.
