“A go-kart without suspension”
Extending the pole position streak in Monaco was a difficult task, but Max Verstappen he could aspire to a compromise between pole and sixth position. Forced to go to the limit all weekend, the error occurred in Turn-1 in the second and decisive run of Q3.
The Dutch driver is not overly regretful: “I wouldn’t say this was my first real mistake this year. I would invite anyone in this paddock to drive this car to try to go faster than me, because it was tremendous. I’m pushing to the limit, but the car is terrible to drive, it has no suspension, a go-kart, in the second sector I can’t climb the curbs. I made a mistake in Turn 1, it’s true, but I could have been even further back. I was on the limit all weekend trying to set the best time possible, but it simply wasn’t possible. This weekend we are behind, in Imola we managed to turn the situation around in an incredible way, but unfortunately the car doesn’t work here. We try to do our best, we are not under pressure, but the machine here doesn’t work and we have to accept it. In the race I will try to get as many points as possible without doing stupid things. If there are opportunities we will try to seize them, but normally here there aren’t many.”
Confirming Verstappen’s difficulties is the elimination of Sergio Perez in Q1. The Mexican driver did not go beyond the 18th time ahead only of the Saubers.
