The first two sessions of free practice for the Bahrain GP have seen the Red Bull traveling at two ‘different speeds’ on the Sakhir track: while the reigning champion Max Verstappen he never went below 5th position, establishing the absolute best time in PL2, the speech was very different for his teammate Sergio Perez. The Mexican, while always returning to the top 10, did not do better than 7th place in PL2, equally improving the performance of the morning, closed in tenth place.
Yet, despite a partially convincing result on paper, the new number 1 on the starting grid did not express the slightest concern about the potential of the RB18, so much so that he calmly analyzed his Friday practice session: “The car performed well today and last week’s tests showed that we could all have a good foundation for this weekend. – commented the Dutchman – we had a pretty straightforward and smooth day, so I’m pretty happy, not least because we tried a few things on the car that seemed to go well with each session. You can see that Ferrari is pushing hard and they are very close to usso it is exhilarating. Looking ahead, we will still have to wait and see the different power unit modes of the teams, as none were focused on qualifying, so I think we all still have a lot to give. It’s nice to see that the teams are all closer together – he concluded – and in general that’s what everyone wants to see. Besides, I think that over time the teams will be even more in conflict with each other ”.
