Verstappen “crowns” Leclerc and Norris
Champions can be recognized immediately. Especially in Formula 1, where drivers know the strengths and weaknesses of their rivals by heart, in many cases racing together with them since their karting days.
In this historical moment it is Max Verstappen to take the covers, but the three-time world champion knows well how this sport can give you as much as it can take away, regardless of your riding quality. And he therefore knows that behind him there are drivers equally deserving of a title, like Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris.
Verstappen’s words
In a game for DAZN SpainVerstappen was asked “Bet a dinner on a driver who will become world champion in the future“. Super Max replied Leclerc, but admitted that there would be several names to name. Second on the Red Bull driver’s list is his friend Norris. These are the last two drivers to beat him in 2024.
The pre-2021 rise
The numbers explain a lot but they can also deceive, at least in Formula 1. The supersonic Verstappen of the 2021-2024 period finds its basis in the one also admired in previous years. However, he didn’t win, due to the “fault” of Mercedes, and therefore went unnoticed (after Abu Dhabi 2020 there were “only” ten successes for the Dutchman in F1). However, the consistency with which he led the group behind Mercedes at least in 2020 suggested that Super Max was now ready for the title and only needed the car. Which is what Leclerc and Norris are still waiting for.
