The 2022 of Formula 1 is starting these days, with the first presentations of the single-seaters that will take to the track starting from the end of February for the shakedown tests in Barcelona and which will then race the first GP of the new year in Bahrain, on 20 March. The eyes, especially in the beginning, will be particularly focused on Max Verstappen and its RB18 # 1. The Red Bull Dutchman is preparing to experience the first defense of his career title. But even before verifying the competitiveness of the new car and taking on the challenge posed by rival teams and other drivers, the Hasselt native will have to be able to dodge a treacherous trap: the risk of being disqualified.
In fact, in the final pyrotechnic of the 2021 season, the now ex number 33 had been the protagonist of many clashes with the title rival Lewis Hamilton that had brought him several non-courtesy visits to the stewards’ offices. In fact, between September and December Verstappen has forfeited well seven penalty points on your SuperLicense. Upon reaching 12 in the space of 12 months, the disqualification for a GP is triggered. The duels at the limit of last year therefore risk making the reigning world champion pay a rather high bill in the new championship. The pilot orange, to feel comfortable, he will have to avoid receiving more than four penalty points in the first 15 races. In fact, starting from the Italian GP 2022, the sanctions received last year will begin to be canceled.
However, that of a complicated disciplinary situation seems to be a peculiar characteristic of the whole Red Bull ‘family’. Boxmate Verstappen, Sergio Perez, will start the championship in the same situation. In fact, he too has forfeited seven penalty points in 2021. Fortunately for him, however, he will be able to start climbing them as early as mid-April. Even eight instead those received from Yuki Tsunoda, of the AlphaTauri, which was last year’s most undisciplined driver. He too will have to pay particular attention during the first half of the year, since only one point will be returned until the end of June.
