Vania Torres is one of the new figures of 'This is war', where she surprised more than one with her great physical prowess in competitions and her competitive nature, which caused her more than one friction with her other reality show colleagues, especially with Michelle Soifer. Although the young athlete may be a new face for many viewers, she already has extensive experience in several soap operas and plays, in addition to being a Latin American surfing champion. La República spoke exclusively with her about her time on the América Televisión reality show and her upcoming projects.

What were Vania Torres' achievements in surfing?
—You just entered 'This is war', but you have a lot of experience in everything related to surfing. You won the gold medal in the Latin American surfing competition. In addition, you represented our country in the Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, in which you won the silver and bronze medals, respectively. How was that experience?
—Cute, really. The Lima 2019 Pan American Games was a totally different experience. It was the first time that surfing entered the Olympic cycle and for us it was quite important. They built the high performance center in Punta Rocas, which was a giant change for us, and now that the 2027 Pan American Games are coming, and we are ready. We have much more infrastructure, we have many more tools to train, those are the type of things that those championships bring.
—How did you take the news that the Pan American Games will be held in Lima again?
—In reality, not everything was ready for the 2019 Pan American Games. The high performance center was not ready, we could not stay there, several athletes went to the Pan American Village, which was not that close. Now, I think it will be much better, we will have many more comforts and we already have much more time to train, so I think it can go even better.
How was Vania Torres' entry into 'This is war'?
—How did the change happen from being exclusively dedicated to sports to 'This is war'? What attracted you to the program or proposal? Because this is your first foray into reality shows.
—I was doing fiction, I was acting in the novel Aldo Miyashiro and Michelle Alexander and it was supposedly going until March, but they cut it. So, I was left a little in the air. I started doing theater and this proposal came and I said: “It's a good opportunity, I'm going to try it, I'm going to see how it goes, see if I adapt,” and I went in and there I am.
-And how are you doing? How do you feel this change has been?
—Well, at first it was pretty hard. The competitions are tough, there is a lot of contact, it is different from competing on the board, but little by little I think I am adapting and handling it better, I think I am doing well.

—Now you have also been exposed to a new media environment. Do you feel the change much of moving into this new arena and having another type of exhibition?
—I don't know, I mean, it doesn't affect me too much. The crash hasn't been that shocking yet, I haven't had much criticism. In this reality show, we argue with the other teams and that is what appears on the news in America, but it is not very out of the ordinary. In addition, we try to keep everything sporting, of course, there is always someone who can get stung, but it is not something serious.
—There were several discussions with Michelle Soifer, is all of that part of the reality show?
—All of that is real. If someone gets upset because he doesn't think it's a point or because the other person did things wrong, he says what he thinks and it's resolved there, that's what it's about too.
—You were also in 'Perdóname', the novel by Aldo Miyashiro and Érika Villalobos. They got some pretty strong reviews, how did you take that? Did it affect you?
—Many of the criticisms were not true and it made me a little sad, because the work was quite beautiful and I think the novel was different and well done, but, well, that's this business.
—What are your next projects, apart from your foray into 'EEG' and future participation in the Pan American Games?
—I'm going to start doing some theater again. For Pride Month, we are doing a play at the Selina Hotel and we are also doing another play at the Julieta Theater later in September.
YOU CAN SEE: 'This is war' premieres a new season with new highlights: when will it be and who would be there?
—There are several rumors of a romance with Facundo González, what can you tell us about that? Is there something more than a friendship?
—There is nothing to say, since there is nothing there.
