It is estimated that more than 100,000 people have lost their vehicles as a result of the DANA in Valencia, almost a month after the major floods that affected more than 70 municipalities in the east occurred.
According to the confederation of official dealers, Faconauto, its Valencian associates have urged the regional and central governments to “coordinate efforts and implement urgent and effective measures to solve the serious mobility problem.”
This request has been made during a meeting that the dealers’ association, Faconauto, has held at the Femeval headquarters with the dealers who have been affected by the floods in which its president, Marta Blázquez, has participated, together to the general secretary of the Femeval employers’ association, Empar Martínez, and the representative of Faconauto, José Ramón Valle.
“Although measures and a budget have already been implemented to address the most urgent needs, restoring the mobility of the thousands who have lost it remains unaddressed.” For this reason, the employers’ association has urged the Generalitat Valenciana and the central government to create a plan that provides effective solutions.
«The dimension of this problem is only known when it is seen on the ground. At Faconauto we believe that restoring the mobility that those affected have lost should be an absolute priority. “It is time to join forces so that no one is left behind in this recovery process,” said Marta Blázquez.
DANA has had a profound impact on the distribution of vehicles in the community, with 40 dealerships affected, the loss of 18,000 passenger cars and 500 heavy commercial vehicles, and economic losses estimated at 490 million euros. This sector, which employs more than 16,000 people, generates 3,875 million euros annually in the region, underlining its strategic importance for economic recovery.
For this reason, business owners have requested that the Generalitat’s proposal to allocate specific aid of 200 million euros to the sector be assessed.
Despite the severity of the damage, the dealers have stressed that they are working intensely to restore their activity as soon as possible. To this end, they have reinforced their after-sales response capacity with the aim of guaranteeing that those affected do not see service interrupted.
In addition, special conditions stand out, which include discounts and flexible financing for the acquisition of new and used vehicles. The capacity of after-sales services has been expanded and replacement vehicle programs have been enabled that allow access to a means of transportation while urgent situations are resolved.
Faconauto has stressed that the system will be prepared to face this crisis thanks to its response capacity and has assured that the brands are working to ensure that there is enough stock in the dealerships for those affected.
