The most important result of the Corona summit is probably: The group will meet again on Thursday and want to decide on new measures. But there is already a foretaste of the impending rules.
Munich – After every Corona summit, there is one question above all: What is in store for us now? This is also the case after this crisis meeting of the Prime Minister with Chancellor Angela Merkel and the SPD politician, which was belittled by soon-to-be Chancellor Olaf Scholz for a “fireside chat”.
First of all, the most important thing: the group will meet again on Thursday, and then it will really get down to business. Among other things, a general compulsory vaccination.
Corona plans: “Up to 30 million more vaccinations by Christmas”
First of all, however, it means: Boosters wherever the doctor goes. “The federal government and the federal states are reaffirming the priority goal of significantly increasing the number of vaccinations,” says government spokesman Steffen Seibert via Twitter: “By Christmas, up to 30 million first, second and booster vaccinations are to be made possible.” Everything below this seems to be possible be.
The “circle of those who are allowed to carry out vaccinations” is to be “significantly expanded”. To this end, the plan provides for a new federal-state crisis team to be set up in the Chancellery immediately. This will strengthen the “coordination and cooperation in the control of the vaccination campaign, in vaccine delivery and distribution”. General Carsten Breuer is in charge of management.
Corona plans: Federal and state governments recognize the need for further measures
And otherwise? Seibert explains further: “The federal and state governments are convinced that additional measures are required to reduce the number of new infections every day and to reduce the pressure on hospitals as soon as possible.” means we will see on Thursday at the earliest.
According to Seibert, one of the proposals that the federal and state governments are now discussing is “the introduction of contact restrictions, especially for the unvaccinated, including at private get-togethers”, which is not so easy to monitor in a democracy. In addition, the former ZDF journalist lists “the expansion of the 2G rules to retail and restrictions on major events”.
Corona plans: uniform federal rules or measures for particularly affected regions?
Details would be worked out by Thursday. It remains unclear, however, whether there should be quasi-uniform national regulations or whether a binding traffic light system with several levels including an emergency brake, based on parameters that have yet to be determined, will be used again. Particularly affected countries such as Bavaria and Saxony are known to be calling for a return to common rules for all of Germany, while elsewhere, given the lower numbers, understandably more regional measures are considered to be more sensible.
As CSU boss and Bavaria regent Markus Söder and the new North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst declared independently of one another, Scholz had already promised to sharpen the Infection Protection Act. So the countries could resort to stricter rules. These include, for example, the temporary closings of restaurants. Compulsory masking in schools across the board also seems to be an option. (mg)
