Dobson-Ribeiro, how scary
Scary moments at Barber Motorsports Park last weekend. On Saturday, in Race-1 of round 4 of the USF Juniors category (a championship racing with USF2000 cars), a major accident occurred between the driver Ava Dobson and my colleague Bruno Ribeiro. An accident which fortunately had no consequences.
Ribeiro's DEForce Racing spun in a very fast and unfortunately blind section (the previous corner is uphill) and – being on the trajectory – turned into a sudden obstacle for those oncoming. Dobson, whose view was further obstructed by two other cars that almost miraculously dodged Ribeiro, was unable to avoid the impact, crashing into her colleague's car.
The impact
These are the images of the accident.
Thanks to the luck and skill of the driver, who swerved to the right at the last moment, the impact did not occur in the passenger compartment area. Ribeiro, who otherwise could have suffered very serious consequences. As soon as the Brazilian spun, the track marshals waved correctly the yellow flags, but the particular nature of the stretch of track prevented the warning from being seen. From the replay we can also appreciate the work ofHalowho prevented Ribeiro's left rear from hitting Dobson's helmet during the impact: “It's easy to forget the risks inherent in our sport. We feel a sense of gratitude for the tireless work done to make race cars safer. Safety is paramount and we are grateful for every innovation that helps keep our riders safe“, this is the comment from DEForce Racing.
