USA: this was the strong explosion in a chemical factory

A major fire was recorded at the Nox-Crete plant in Nebraska, United States, last Monday, May 30. The catastrophe generated the evacuation of several families who lived in the surrounding area and left a large part of the sector without electricity.

The company, according to its website, was responsible for manufacturing chemical products for construction, which makes a large part of these highly flammable.

The moment in which the plant is consumed in flames and the roofs, structures and implements are destroyed because of it was recorded on video.

According to Scott Fitzpatrick, fire chief, his team had initially struggled to access the fire, but some time later he realized that this was higher than initially estimated, so they decided to withdraw.

According to the city’s fire department in a press conference, the fire at the Nox-Crete plant was reported around 7 pm Monday, following a call that “heard the explosions and saw the smoke”.

Although initially the fire force advised the inhabitants to stay inside their houses with the windows closed, after 9 p.m., an evacuation alert was issued for residents between 13th and 20th streetsfrom the neighborhoods of Leavenworth to Marta, in which they were asked to evacuate quickly.

We had propane bottles that exploded and some other chemicals in there. We’re not sure what chemicals exploded, but there were projectiles that flew at least 50 feet in the air from those explosions, “said the chief.

Evacuees were offered to go to Omaha’s Columbus Community Center as a place of refuge. Thirteen of them complied with the instruction and spent the night in said center.

Cause of fire unknown

On the morning of this Tuesday, May 31, critical points were still being turned off. According to the fire chiefSo far no injuries have been reported.

During his press conference, Fitzpatrick assured that the cause of the fire will be known until it has been completely extinguished, since it is not possible to determine it before.

According to the Omaha Public Power District utility company, more than 2,500 customers had lost power near the fire. In addition to this, the wastewater is being monitored to ensure the safety of the inhabitants.
