A woman was found dead in a public restroom at a department store in South Carolina. Due to these facts, an investigation was opened, since her body went unnoticed for four days.

The case was recorded at the Belk store in the Columbiana Center. According to local press reports, An employee would have found Bessie Durham, 63, dead inside the bathroom around 8 pm last Monday.

Durham worked for an outside company that provided cleaning services at Belk and had last been seen on Thursday, September 15, at work.
His family had reported him missing to authorities, Columbia Deputy Police Chief Melron Kelly said.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office clarified that there was no evidence that someone killed Durham or that the woman had consumed any substance. He also reported that an autopsy was scheduled to determine her cause of death.

The authorities will also investigate if there was any type of negligence, because it transpired that the store opened during its regular hours the four days that the employee was missing.
For his part, Belk said in a statement that he is working with authorities to determine what happened and sent his condolences to the Durham family.
