The number of unemployment benefit claims in the United States increased by 22,000 in the week ending May 4, to 231,000, according to a survey released this Thursday, the 9th, by the country’s Department of Labor. The result was above the expectations of analysts consulted by FactSet, who predicted 213 thousand requests.
The previous week’s total orders were slightly revised upwards, from 208 thousand to 209 thousand.
The number of continued orders showed an increase of 17 thousand in the week ended April 27, to 1.785 million, coming exactly in line with the FactSet consensus. This indicator is released one week late.
