What you missed that night in NFL, NBA, and NHL
Dusseldorf While most Europeans are asleep, the North American professional leagues are busy. What happened that night in American football, basketball and ice hockey. Today among other things: A debacle for a German.
Basketball: Schröder wins with Celtics clearly against ex-Club Lakers
Dennis Schröder inflicted a bitter defeat on his ex-club Los Angeles Lakers with the Boston Celtics in the North American professional basketball league NBA. The Celtics won on Friday evening (local time) with 130: 108. The best thrower was Boston’s Jayson Tatum with 37 points. Superstar LeBron James came back for the Lakers after an eight game break on 23 points.
Schröder was in a good mood despite four ball losses and contributed 21 points as well as six rebounds and assists to the clear victory of the Celtics. In the previous season, the 28-year-old German international had played for the Lakers, but then gambled away during contract negotiations, so that in the end he received a poorly paid contract in Boston.
The other Germans in the NBA had no win on Friday. The Wagner brothers lost with the Orlando Magic after an exciting final phase just under the top team Brooklyn Nets with 113: 115. Franz Wagner scored 17 points, and the 20-year-old also scored five assists for the first time in his young NBA career, while brother Moritz contributed two points from the bench.
Isaiah Hartenstein lost with the Los Angeles Clippers at the New Orleans Pelicans with 81:94. Hartenstein scored six of eight throws for eleven points in his almost 20 minutes playing time, and he also scored six rebounds and three blocks.
Without the still injured Maxi Kleber and superstar Luka Doncic, the Dallas Mavericks lost 104: 112 at the Phoenix Suns. For the Suns it was the eleventh win in a row.
Ice hockey: Grubauer experiences with Seattle debacle against ex-team Colorado
The German national goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer has suffered a bitter defeat against his former club Colorado Avalanche in the North American professional ice hockey league NHL with the Seattle Kraken. The 3: 7 (0: 2, 0: 4, 3: 1) on Friday evening (local time) in their own hall was also the sixth defeat in a row for the Kraken.
Grubauer, who was supposed to be spared, came in at the beginning of the second period when the score was 0: 4 for his hapless representative Chris Driedger. The 29-year-old then conceded three more hits, but also parried 14 shots on his goal.
Before the season, Grubauer had surprisingly switched from Colorado to the newly founded franchise in Seattle. The Kraken are trailing behind in the Pacific Division with just four wins in their first 17 games.
Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators around Tim Stützle are about to return to the ice. After three games were postponed in the previous week due to a corona outbreak on the Canadian team and the training grounds were even closed, the Senators will be able to train again for the first time on Saturday. Eight of the ten players who were meanwhile on the NHL’s corona list are allowed to participate again.
The three game cancellations were the first for Corona reasons this season. In the preseason there were a total of 55.
