NBA: Wagner brothers lead Orlando to victory over Boston
Basketball world champions Moritz and Franz Wagner led the Orlando Magic to victory in the NBA’s top game against the Boston Celtics. At 113:96, Moritz Wagner was the best scorer of the game with 27 points and just missed his personal NBA record of 30 points. His brother Franz, who is four years younger, also impressed with 15 points.
A combination of “energy and focus” is an essential factor for success, said Moritz Wagner: “If we play smart, we can beat anyone in this league. It’s fun to play for each other.” The team has done a “really good job” so far this season.
Thanks to the strong brother pair, Orlando is currently the team of the moment in the NBA alongside the Oklahoma Thunder with six wins in a row. In the Eastern Conference, only record champion Boston (12:4) currently has a better record than Orlando (11:5).
As a result of Orlando’s victory, the Toronto Raptors around national team captain Dennis Schröder no longer have a chance of advancing in the NBA’s newly introduced In-Season Tournament. The Canadians’ 121:108 win over the Chicago Bulls didn’t change that; it was their first success in the competition at the third attempt. Schröder had 17 points and five assists.
Daniel Theis suffered his first defeat in his fourth appearance for the Los Angeles Clippers a week after moving to the Californian metropolis. The hosts lost to the New Orleans Pelicans 106:116. Theis, who moved to LA from the Indiana Pacers, scored three points. Isaiah Hartenstein and the New York Knicks won 100:98 against the Miami Heat after a 21-point deficit.
NFL premiere: Black Friday Game goes to the Dolphins
On Jevon Holland’s big evening, the Miami Dolphins clearly won the first Black Friday game in the history of the NFL professional football league. On the day after Thanksgiving, a bargain highlight of the year not only in the USA, the team around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa won 34:13 at the New York Jets.
For the first time, two NFL teams faced each other on “Black Friday,” and Holland caused astonishment. The Miami Dolphins safety caught a throw from Jets quarterback Tim Boyle and ran 99 yards to the end zone after the interception. He managed a so-called “pick six,” with the 23-year-old running practically across the entire field.
Tagovailoa completed 21 of 30 passes for 243 yards, threw a touchdown and had two interceptions. Miami consolidated first place in the AFC East with its eighth win in its eleventh game of the season. New York (4:7) has little chance of making the play-offs.
Draisaitl scored a double goal with the Oilers
Led by double goal scorer and preparer Leon Draisaitl, the Edmonton Oilers have ended their losing streak in the North American professional ice hockey league NHL. After three defeats, the Canadians won 5-0 at the Washington Capitals. Draisaitl was involved in Evander Kane’s 1-0 victory and scored twice in the lead. His congenial strike colleague Connor McDavid provided four assists.
“We started well and kept our game simple. It’s always good to end an away trip with a win,” said Draisaitl. It was “a good step” that could be built on. Edmonton recently lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes in a row.
For the Oilers it was their sixth win of the season in the 19th game and their first without conceding a goal. Washington, on the other hand, suffered its first defeat after five wins in a row. Draisaitl now has 26 scorer points (8 goals, 18 assists).
The German national players Moritz Seider and Lukas Reichel were also successful. Seider and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Eastern Conference leaders Boston Bruins 5-2. Reichel and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 after overtime. The two Germans did not collect any scorer points.
