NFL Champion Von Miller leaves the LA Rams

While most Europeans are asleep, the North American professional leagues are buzzing. What Happened That Night in American Football, Basketball, and Ice Hockey.

Football: Super Bowl winner Miller joins the Buffalo Bills

Two-time Super Bowl winner Von Miller has left the current champion Los Angeles Rams and signed a six-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. According to information from the US sports broadcaster ESPN, the 32-year-old linebacker should collect 120 million US dollars for this contract.

Miller had previously won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2016 and was named NFL MVP after beating the Carolina Panthers in the final.

Ice hockey: 1:4 home defeats for Grubauer and Stützle

Philipp Grubauer and Tim Stützle each lost their home games in the North American professional league NHL by 1:4. National goalkeeper Grubauer lost with the new NHL team Seattle Kraken against Tampa Bay Lightning, talent Stützle had to admit defeat with the Ottawa Senators to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Ottawa is penultimate in the Eastern Conference, and the team from the Canadian capital is likely to miss the playoffs for the fifth time in a row. Seattle is even bottom of the table in the Western Conference.

Baskteball: 11th consecutive away loss for the Lakers

The descent of NBA record champions Los Angeles Lakers does not end. The team around superstar LeBron James conceded a 104:124 at the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday evening (local time) and thus the 16th defeat in the past 21 games. After the eleventh away defeat in a row, the team only has a narrow lead in tenth place. From eleventh place there is no longer a chance of the playoffs via qualification. For the third year in a row, the league’s glamor team trailed by more than 25 points – an unprecedented level in the NBA for a team with James on the roster.

“My patience is being tested more than in previous years simply because of the way we play,” said James.

The Lakers also got pressure from the 122:120 victory of the San Antonio Spurs over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs are currently eleventh in the Western Conference.

The Dallas Mavericks, on the other hand, secured a valuable win against the Brooklyn Nets. In the 113:111 secured in the last second, Luka Doncic scored 37 points, national basketball player Maxi Kleber hit two important free throws for a late lead and ended the evening with four points. In the Nets, Kevin Durant had to be content with 23 points as the best pitcher.

The Nets are also currently outside the top six in the Eastern Conference, which entitles them to direct participation in the playoffs. The 114-118 loss of the sixth-ranked Cleveland Cavaliers to the Philadelphia 76ers helped the Nets. Steph Curry injured his foot in the 110-88 Boston Celtics win over the Golden State Warriors and was unable to continue playing.
