At 72: NFL coach Carroll wants to move on
Even at 72, Pete Carroll still hasn't had enough. The head coach of the Seattle Seahawks from the NFL professional football league wants to continue and is currently entering his 15th season with the club in 2024/25. “I plan on coaching this team,” the oldest NFL coach said on his radio show.
Seattle missed the play-offs on Sunday despite a win in the last main round game at the Arizona Cardinals (21:20), as the Green Bay Packers also won at the end. Carroll, who led the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl triumph in 2014, wants to attack again. His contract runs until the end of the 2025/26 season.
“I'm not exhausted. I'm not tired. I'm none of those things,” the head coach emphasized: “I have to do my job better and I have to help my coaches more. There is a lot of room for improvement.”
Daniel Theis wins clearly against Phoenix with the Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers around basketball world champion Daniel Theis have won again in the NBA. On Monday (local time) the Clippers won their home game against the Phoenix Suns 138:111 (71:63), after previously losing to city rivals Lakers. This ended the run of five wins in a row in the North American Basketball League.
Theis scored six points, three rebounds and three assists in 14 minutes of action; the Clippers' best thrower was Paul George with 25 points. The hosts led the entire second half and pulled away with a dominant final section (37:20).
After Theis joined the Clippers in mid-November last year, the center won 19 of the 25 games with his new team. The team from Los Angeles maintains fourth place in the Western Conference and is still on course for the playoffs.
The Milwaukee Bucks around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo are still not getting going. The 2021 NBA champions lost at home against the Utah Jazz 116:132 (46:77) and suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games. Antetokounmpo also couldn't avoid the defeat with 25 points, eleven assists and ten rebounds, his fourth triple-double of the season. The Bucks remain second in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics, who also lost on Monday (local time) and were beaten by the Indiana Pacers 131:133 (68:59).
Shoulder surgery: Season ended for NBA star Morant
First Ja Morant missed 25 games due to off-field misconduct, now the NBA season for the Memphis Grizzlies basketball star has ended prematurely just weeks after his return. The 24-year-old will not play again this season due to shoulder surgery, his club announced.
Due to “ongoing pain and instability,” the guard underwent an MRI scan and discovered a torn labrum, the Grizzlies said. The right shoulder is affected; Morant injured it in training last Saturday.
Morant returned to the floor on December 19th and the two-time all-star shone with 34 points in the win over the New Orleans Pelicans (115:113). The NBA banned the professional for “conduct detrimental to the league” in the summer after he was repeatedly seen with weapons in social media posts.
